His international breakthrough was short film The Diver (Hyppääjä), which made history at the Tampere International Short Film Festival 2001 by winning the Grand Prix and four other prizes. Selected filmography: The Diver (2000), Sirkka (2001), The Crawl (2004), Keidas (2007), My Superhero (2010), Soul Catcher (2011),
Hietsu (2014), Dance On Thin Ice (2017), Allas (2022).
As a teenager, it was popular to go swimming at night at the public outdoor swimming stadium in Helsinki. It was exciting because it was forbidden. It was also romantic at times. I can still remember how strangely the surface of the water shimmered in the moonlight. My imagination was fired by this sight.
