Director Biography - Jason Lockhart

Jason Lockhart is a Talent Agent from Los Angeles who relocated to the Southeast market in 2017 as the Head of TV & Film at one of the most prestigious agencies in Atlanta. He is also an accomplished filmmaker, having worked with National Lampoon and sold two feature films as an award-winning Writer/Director, one of which The CW picked up as a Movie of the Week. Having grown up as a child actor, Jason has over 25 years of experience & education in the industry, but after bouncing around several seats in Hollywood, he finds it most rewarding behind the talent agent's desk, helping others pursue their dreams. In 2020, that passion led to him becoming a #1 Best Selling author for his book Ask an Agent: Brutally Answered Questions for Actors of All Stages, and he continually writes for Backstage Magazine as one of their "Expert Contributors."

Director Statement

An award-winning Writer/Director friend in Los Angeles sent me a Facebook post for a horror short shooting in Alabama and said: “I know these guys, you’re not far from there, you should get back into directing and submit.”

“No way,” I thought. I’m a full-time Talent Agent in Atlanta, working 70+ hours/per week and haven’t directed a film in over 6 years. “I’m too busy and won’t get the gig.” And it was nearly 10pm at night.

About 30 minutes later I realized, “Of course I won’t get the gig if I don’t even apply for it.” So I pieced together a brief email with trailers to a few of my successful feature films. Then within the next 6 days, I had met the filmmakers, read their award-winning/terrifying script, committed to the job, and created a fully detailed shot list, ready to shoot the hell out of this chilling story.

From there, every single choice I made was selfless. It was about showcasing and inspiring the talent around me. Everyone in the cast & crew was special, and as soon I learned their strengths, tried to pump ‘em to the max. I was fortunate to enter late in the game, with a brilliant DP already on board, high end locations, and a smart shooting schedule. All I had to do was show up, lead, and continually make decisions on what I’d hope the audience could gain as a new viewer of this story, in each and every moment captured. Now that we’ve basically completed the project, I’m thrilled to say the audience is in for a scary, wild ride… filled with twists, shocks, and questions to leave them talking.

Thematically, my overall attempts were to blend the vibes of Ozark and American Horror Story, and seems we did, with a touch of classic horror. And somehow we took a 33-minute rough cut down to a 17-minute film, through decisions made with only the audience in mind. Once they’ve learned what they need to learn from a scene, cut to the next! Jeremiah Fanning (cinematographer & editor) continually blew my mind with his creativity and persistence for greatness. Chris Carlisle (producer) set the stage for success in every aspect. Andrea Carlisle (writer/producer/lead actor) took this baby and brought it to life, fully open to collaboration, and with such passion, excitement, and kindness. All I really did was help everyone, the best I could, and hope the audience is enticed from the first frame to the last.
