Experiencing Interruptions?

Nightlife

In this dance film myself and my friend (Anastasia Maselli) explore the movement possibilities of Bottle Alley in our hometown. From not only having our dance degree cut short, but also from being restricted from dancing as much as normal and isolated from many people due to the pandemic, our movement explores these feelings.

Director Statement

The main vision behind this film was not only to explore the realms of screen dance, movement in different spaces/locations and seeing how our body's reacted to the abnormal environment. But it was also a way for us to discover our creativity and how comfortable we are navigating the space with a camera.

We are both fascinated by Bottle Alley and the light-displays that come on during the evenings as we often walk through the alley because it is in Hastings. Therefore, we felt inspired to see how the lights would not only look on camera, but also how the lights would affect how our movement looks.

Due to the current pandemic, we have been unable to dance as much as normal due to us not having access to studio space. As a dancer it can become very frustrating to feel restricted from dance for long periods of time, therefore this film was also an opportunity for us to let our bodies go, feel free, and just simply move our bodies.
