THE NEW RENAISSANCE

Inspired by the idea of a cultural revival, we recognize that the digital revolution creates the conditions for a New Renaissance, opening a door for a different set of stories to be told. Film is a unique medium, and the New Renaissance Film Festival's mission is TO SUPPORT AND CHAMPION INDIE FILMMAKERS AND SCREENWRITERS in this new era, to fulfill their dream in telling their stories.

NOTIFICATION DATE: January 2019

FESTIVAL: first weekend in March 2019

A FESTIVAL OF INSPIRING ARTISTS AND STORYTELLERS

This four-day festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way.

NRFF had its successful inaugural festival in London in August 2016, and then in Amsterdam in March 2017. The third edition of NRFF Amsterdam will be held in early March 2019, at the arthouse cinema LAB111, which is close to the famous Vondelpark in Amsterdam, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts.

The festival's focus is on the ARTIST, on the STORY and on building a COMMUNITY of inspiring storytellers. We screen mainly short films and debut features. Our numerous award possibilities give independents the chance to receive the recognition they deserve.

We have been privileged to screen world premiers at our festival and films that went on to win an Oscar! We have also found that filmmakers, screenwriters and actors create new projects from meeting each other at the festival.

NRFF Amsterdam has several categories for International, Benelux and LGBT filmmakers. We especially love quality dramas with strong emotional themes, but we accept ALL genres.

We will screen around 100 films in two cinemas over the course of four days. This event includes a screenwriting competition, professional MASTER CLASSES by industry professionals, Filmmaker Q&A's, Panel Discussions, a fun COCKTAIL HOUR and AWARDS CEREMONY. The festival will be open to the public and ticket sales will be announced on the website in due course.

STRENGTHENING AMSTERDAM'S FILM COMMUNITY

It is our passion to not only provide a stage for our filmmakers but also to strengthen the film community in Amsterdam, by building an engaged audience through social media, our FILM OF THE WEEK initiative, and links with local businesses.

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

NRFF is growing from the ground up. Our mission is to enhance the vitality of independent filmmaking. Each city will engage with different themes and communities, giving independents the recognition they deserve.

WAIVER POLICY

We know all too well that most filmmakers have to work with a tight budget. Unfortunately however, WE CANNOT WAIVE THE SUBMISSION FEE as we are a self-funding festival.

Mr script won best international short screenplay. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the festival. But Jan and Massimo were very responsive and open to communication by email, and seemed genuinely sorry that I couldn't come to Amsterdam. Will try for next year.
