NEW CHITOSE is returning to an in-person edition in 2023!
Submissions are now open for the 10th edition of the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival which will take place November 2-6th, 2023.

NEW CHITOSE 2023 is an animation festival dedicated to animated films held at the terminal building of New Chitose Airport (Hokkaido, Japan), which connects Hokkaido with the rest of the world.
The festival not only attracts attention as one of the few film festivals in the world where all screenings, lodgings, and stays are completed at the airport but also boasts the largest number of entries in the competition section in Japan. The festival also offers a multifaceted program introducing animation, including lectures by Japanese and foreign creators and exhibitions in public spaces. It has now grown into one of Japan’s top animation film festivals.

Last year the festival received 2,400 works in all categories. The winners were “Backflip” (Short Grand Prix, directed by Nikita Diakur), “My Love Affair with Marriage” (Feature Grand Prix, directed by Signe Baumane), “Lawless Love” (Japan Grand Prix, directed by Ryuya Suzuki), and else.

Rules & Terms

1. Short Films Competition
Submissions must be animated films with a run time not exceeding 30 minutes and must be works completed in or after 2021. 360°/VR works are also accepted. There is no submission fee.

Submissions will be sorted into the relevant category based on judgment by the Festival Office and Selection Committee members.

1-2. Invitations
The festival office will invite a filmmaker or a producer who satisfy certain conditions by covering related costs as described below. The detail is notified of the details by email after the selection.
*Please note that depending on the spread of COVID-19, invitation conditions may be changed or may be canceled.

1-2-1. International Competition, Japan Competition and Music Animation Competition
The festival will cover (one person per film):
(1) Part of round-trip flight costs (as par the Festival Office regulations)
(2) Accommodation during the festival (applicable only to hotels arranged by the Festival Office and only for one person)
(3) Part of meals during the festival (by meal coupon, as par with Festival Office regulations)

1-2-2. Student Competition
The festival will cover (one person per film):
(1) Accommodation during the festival (applicable only to hotels arranged by the Festival Office and only for one person)
(2) Part of meals during the festival (by meal coupon, as par with Festival Office regulations)
　
　
2. Feature Films Competition
Submissions must be animated films with a run time exceeding 40 minutes and must be works completed in or after 2021. There is no submission fee.
Note: Submit a preview link of the whole film, not a trailer.
