Director Biography - Oonagh Kearney

An alumna of University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and the National Film and Television School in London, Oonagh is a Cork-based writer and director who has worked across short film, episodic television drama and documentary with the support of Screen Ireland, Arts Council of Ireland, RTE, TG4, Channel 4, Hulu, BRITDOC and Wellcome Trust.

For television, Oonagh recently directed Block B (episodes 4-6) of OBITUARY (Tua Films, APC, RTE, Hulu and Screen Ireland), VARDY V ROONEY: A COURTROOM DRAMA (Chalkboard TV, MK1 Studios, Channel 4) and 2nd Unit on BAD SISTERS (Merman, Apple TV).

As writer-director, Oonagh is currently developing her TV drama series NOTIONS with RTE and Keeper Pictures. With the support of Screen Ireland, her feature film VIRTUOSO is also in development with Keeper Pictures.

Oonagh’s feature screenplay SNOW ON BEARA won her a place on the Athena IRIS Screenwriting Lab in NYC, the BBC Drama Writers Room in London, and the EWA Screenwriting residency in Berlin. It is in currently development with EZ Films and Creative Europe.

Through her company Tyrella Pictures, Oonagh has directed award-winning short works such as FIVE LETTERS TO THE STRANGER WHO WILL DISSECT MY BRAIN and OÍCHE NOLLAIG NA MBAN (funded by the Arts Council of Ireland) and ON THE HEMLINE (RTE Storyland).

As director, her most recent short film NEVER KILL A FEMBOY ON THE FIRST DATE, funded by Virgin Media, written by Lee-Loi Chieng and produced by Aoibhín Murphy, will premier at Dublin International Film Festival in 2024.
