Raenell Dionne Jones is a Pittsburgh, PA native, the home of August Wilson and Pittsburgh Steelers football. Growing up as an only child, Raenell entertained herself with creativity and watching television. Yet, her love for writing did not evolve until post-graduation from her Penn State business degree.
In 2000, Raenell ventured into the hidden treasures of her imagination that resulted in writing her first screenplay. She knew to become an influential writer would require training and being where the action takes place. This single independent Black woman sold her home, walked away from two jobs, and moved to Los Angeles, California in 2006. She completed her studies at UCLA Professional Screenwriting Program and learned not to wait on Hollywood to see her talents and skills, but to seize opportunities by doing independent projects and writing her own stories.
As a result, Raenell has written over a dozen screenplays. She also written, directed and produced two dramatic based short films, a webisode series and two stage plays. Raenell completed her first indie feature film called Neurotic Beauty, that she has written, directed and produced. Plus, Raenell’s range of writing includes creating and self-publishing two poetry books and two children’s picture books.
Her writing has been acknowledged by The Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, Scriptapalooza TV Screenwriting Contest, Kingdomwood Film Festival, Writers on the Storm Screenwriting Contest and others. Raenell’s goal is to write for a variety of audiences whether for the stage, screen, television and in books. Raenell's true desire is to be an unforgettable storyteller.
"I count it an honor to share my gift of storytelling with the world. I hope my creative writing will entertain, educate and inspire others."
