Director Statement

Who among us has never longed for a moment of silence, of peace? Calm is harmonious, it binds what is chaotic, it gives order and symmetry to what does not have it. This is why, in this short film, there is none of that. We, like the protagonist, are in constant search of peace, but this condition seems impossible to us. Harmony and grammar often go hand in hand, and the degrammatization of cinematic rules seemed to us the best way to tell the discomfort of Giovanna, the girl at the center of the story. There is always something that does not add up in the composition of the images, in the editing choices and in the soundtrack. What is it? It's like when, playing to look for the small differences between two similar drawings, we come to find them all, except one. We try hard to figure out what we don't find, to know what the out-of-context element is, but the more time passes, the more difficult it is. It's a disturbing feeling, it makes us dizzy and lose our patience, but it seems unsolvable. Why is that sound put at that moment? Why is it so strong? Why is Giovanna's face cut out of the shot, or is the girl squashed and small in the back of the room, when we want to know what she's doing? Giovanna studies autopsies and, in that job, the only way to find confirmation of what you think is to take the scalpel, open and analyze the situation visually. But how is it possible to tell the autopsy of a relationship? The corpse of the relationship between Giovanna and Maria, her roommate, is smelly, decomposing. It is only by dividing the relationship that one could find the cause of Giovanna's discomfort and remedy it. And maybe find peace.
