Nelson Blish is the author The Taking of the King, published by Penguin Books, a novel about a Russian attempt to hijack a US submarine after the breakup of the Soviet Union. A screenplay adaptation of The Taking of the King won the Best Screenplay award at the New Hope Film Festival.
His second novel, Ishmael’s Son, published by The Glencannon Press, is about a terrorist attempt to smuggle an Exocet missile into the US on a cargo container ship. A screenplay adaptation of Ishmael’s Son was the winner of The West Field Screenwriting Award.
Poems and stories by Blish have appeared in Le Mot Juste, The Lyric, New Millennium, Desperate Act, HazMat, Art Times, Voices International, Small Brushes and Oberon. He is working on a collection of his poetry.
Blish is also a film maker and Turnabout is his directorial debut. In this women-centric movie, a young professional woman is drugged and date raped by her boss. Unable to get retribution through the legal system she takes justice into her own hands and makes the punishment fit the crime. It is a tough subject, but it is everyday headline news and highlights a strong female protagonist.
