A Berlin lake is monitored like a patient in a hospital. The course of a stream in a rural German area has been naturalized with dredges. A man-made desert has been declared a wilderness area in the hope to create a primeval forest over the course of the next decades.
The film observes three practical examples in the current struggle for a balance between manipulated and preserved nature. The narration raises questions on how nature could be recognized as a subject and partner instead of merely an object that is being used and exploited.
