At the scene of a burglary, two criminals stumble across a teenage girl, Lara Stern, about to commit suicide.

Some time later, in a prison visitation room, one of the burglars recounts his version of events to his criminal lawyer, Grace Burnell.

But his best friend has told a very different story. Grace must decide who she believes, and does the truth really matter?
