Nangma: Sounds of Tibet
Set in McLeod Ganj, this documentary explores how music preserves Tibetan identity, culture, and spirituality in exile. Capturing the sounds of the Tibetan instruments, monks’ chants, making of Tibetan instruments and modern Tibetan fusion, it follows the community’s musical expressions across streets, temples, and homes. The documentary focuses on different aspects of music like religious, fusion, contemporary, and refugee music. This is to encapsulate the essence of Tibetans in exile via sound. Through interviews with musicians, instrument maker, monks, and youth, the film reveals how music connects Tibetans to their homeland and helps them navigate the complexities of displacement. This auditory and visual journey highlights music’s role in cultural preservation, spiritual solace, and resilience. Honouring the Tibetan community that sustains its' heritage through the shared language of music.

Saqiba Kamal Khan, a Delhi-based independent multimedia journalist from Lucknow - the city of nawabs. Khan draws inspiration from the city's rich storytelling and artistic heritage. Blending her passion for photography with writing, Khan crafts compelling, visually-driven narratives. Currently, pursuing Master’s in Convergent Journalism from AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Music is a bridge to identity, connection, and resilience. With this documentary we explored how the Tibetan community in exile preserves their culture and spirituality through music. The melodies of the dranyen, the rhythms of the nga, monks' chants, and fusion sounds blending Tibetan folk with global influences. Beyond music, the film reflects on resilience and community solidarity amidst displacement. Through immersive visuals and interviews, it highlights the profound role of art in sustaining heritage and fostering connection.
