Nancy Wyllie holds Master's degrees from RISD and Tulane University in New Orleans. She studied film at New York University following completion of Graduate School. She has exhibited her photo-based work in New York at White Columns, The Alternative Museum, Artists's Space, Exit Art and P.P.O.W., as well as Brandeis University, Ohio State University, Marymount Manhattan College, Providence College and M.I.T.
Her experimental film has been screened throughout the US and abroad including The Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria, The 7th International Berlin Director's Lounge and the Persona Art Festival in London where she won the Persona Award in 2011. In December 2011, her video short titled, "Nothing," was one of 25 international selections screened at Tribeca Cinemas Video Art & Experimental Film Festival in New York.
In October 2012, "Layover" premiered at Cinema Reset : Multimedia & Experimental Cinema Exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans Film Festival. In 2013, three experimental videos were selected for inclusion in Film Reel Screenings, Queens Hall Gallery, Narbeth, Wales and at Colony 13, Cardigan, Wales, UK.
Her experimental short documentary titled, "Moth Vitals" was included in Films About Workers, Antenna Gallery, French Quarter, New Orleans with Harvard's Sensory Ethnography Lab and LA's video collective Freewaves.
In 2014, "Exit Strategy : Education Behind Bars" was screened at Violence Transformed, Massachusetts State House, Boston, at Cambridge College and the Resnikoff Gallery. She was one of four American experimental filmmakers screened at the 2015 Venice Experimental Cinema and Performance Art Festival.
Wyllie's work in experimental cinema is featured in a 12 page interview in the Biennale Edition of VideoFocus, a special issue featuring video artists and independent filmmakers. She is one of 15 filmmakers selected from over 3000 international submissions by Sitigmart 10 panelists in France, Italy and Germany. The interview may be accessed online via her News page link.

"Moth Vitals" was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Sound (Winner) in a Short Documentary at the Portsmouth International Film Festival, UK Sept 2015. "Moth Vitals" was one of 15 international films selected for screening at the As iFF International Film Festival, NY Nov 13, 2015.
"Reenactments" screened at FILMIDEO 2016 at The Newark Museum in March 2016. In June 2016 "Moth Vitals" was selected for screening at The New Media Film Festival at The Landmark Theater, Los Angeles (LA Premiere) and at TAFFNY The Americas Film Festival NY, Organized by the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies CUNY. Moth Vitals" was screened in November 2016 at The Aesthetica Film Festival in York, UK, a BAFTA Qualifying festival. Wyllie was a Panel Member in a Discussion led by Greg McGee at ASFF in York on November 4, 2016.
'Moth Vitals' was one of 28 international submissions selected for screening at NOW & AFTER International Video Art Festival at The Darwin Museum in Moscow. The State Darwin Museum made "Moth Vitals" part of their Permanent Collection in November 2016.
Her Gun control film ‘Reenactments’ won The Americas Award for Best Experimental Film at the Americas Film Festival in New York City in June 2018. The Awards Ceremony was held at The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in lower Manhattan.
‘Inquest’ premiered at Venice Film Week Aug 27-31, 2019 and at Brigade des images in Paris Sept 5, 2019. ‘Moth Vitals’ screened on Feb 23, 2020 at jellyFEST in LA. Awards Ceremony at the AFI American Film Institute/Mark Goodson Theater.
Wyllie has taught at RISD, Tulane University, Ithaca College, MFA Program at Vermont College of Norwich University and served as Chair and Professor of Art & Digital Media at the Community College of Rhode island.
