New York Academy of Film and Music (NYAFM) is an independent non-profit organization aiming to support art films with a strong emphasis on bringing a high standard for music for films. NYAFM holds an international festival each year and will screen the winning films live in New York City. NYAFM will accept submissions of films that are in the process of post-production and seeking original musical scoring. If amongst one of the winning films, your project will be scored by award winning composers based in New York. Completed films are welcome to enter the festival as well. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information.

Selected films are being announced on our website and Facebook page. Keep checking back as more selected films will be added to the lists there, by the 1st of May, 2017.

1. Original music will be composed for your film
2. Live screening in NYC

If your submission is chosen as a prize winning film, a New York based composer will work with you to write music for your movie. In addition, your film will be screened live in New York City. This will include films that already had music when submitted as well as those that were composed via NYAFM.

All films are acceptable except Music Videos.

Please be sure to choose the correct category for your submission; If your film already has been scored with original music, click on Completed Films. If your film is in the process of post-production, and is in need of original music, please click on the category of Films in need of music. If your project is not completed but you put sound samples on it, please explain and confirm that you are seeking original musical score for your film while submitting.

If your film is chosen for scoring, you will be able to communicate with your partnered composer via FaceTime, Skype, email, etc.

The film must have been finished on, or after the 1st of January 2016.

If the film you are submitting is not in English, please include subtitles.

If your film is chosen for screening, you might be requested to send a hard copy. Please note that this DVD will not be returned.

We reserve the right to change the festival dates and location of screening.

We encourage the cast and filmmakers to attend the festival to ensure helpful networking.

Please note that we do not have any funding to support airfare, housing, or prize compensation at this time, although we hope to be able to do so in the future.

If you are traveling from outside of the United States and need to apply for a visa, we would be happy to write a letter to invite you.

We will do our best to invite critics and journalists, and organize Q&A after each screening.
