NOTHING IS WITHIN REASON

Ideologically, NOTHING IS WITHIN REASON (2023) is the apotheosis of European nihilism as the source of both fear and hope at the level of the individual and our current civilisation. That black hole at the centre of gravity, extracting every ray of sunlight from us and tempting us in return with the promise of eventual singularity.
Conceptually, or perhaps narratively, the work is animated by the four seasons. Thus, we begin with a melancholic contemplation of the inevitable transience of spring flowers, followed by the animated and brief extroversion of summer, then the speechless fall of autumn, and end with the chill and ossified articulation of winter with another spring on the horizon.
Plastically, the work is mostly based on a variation around graphic noise, understood metaphorically as anti-figure, as indeterminacy, being simultaneously before and beyond the understanding, fold that conditions any understanding. Shape before shape, seeing beyond seeing.
Aesthetically, the work continues my search for pure materialist and sensory video, hence the aesthetic radicalism and aggressive immediacy of colour and sound.
The title is a direct reference to the principle of sufficient reason.
