INTO THE WHITE

Anna lost her son. Desperation leads her to attend a session of metaphony, where Franca, a self-styled medium, communicates with the afterlife through a radio receiving in the white noise the messages of the deceased.
Sometimes the dead also leave contributions, small objects tied to what they were when they were alive.
Anna manages to talk to her baby, but also discovers that Franca is not as honest as she seems.
Once back home, however, she finds something in her pocket that will make her question everything...

Director Biography - Ildo Brizi

Ildo Brizi was born in Genoa on January 11, 1979. He graduated with honors in literature and philosophy with a thesis on cinema by George A. Romero.
Between 1999 and 2000 he attended for two years the School of
Cinematographic Art in Genoa graduating in direction and film making. Later he became a teacher of video shooting at the same School of Cinematographic Art. In 2008 he made the documentary "Orizzonte a Ponente" dedicated to the works of art, maritime culture and the beautiful landscapes of the west of Genoa. The documentary is screened in a special event at the ninth week of the documentary during Documentary in Europe in Bardonecchia. He works on other documentaries dedicated to the peculiarities of the Ligurian territory including "Un mare di colori - l'area marina protetta di Portofino" and "Nel parco come a teatro - la villa Pallavicini di Pegli". He directed several music videos and short films. In 2000, his debut short film, "Ridi Clown", won the Corti in Corsa festival. In 2010 he made the short film on resistance entitled "Giorni di Primavera" with which he received a special mention at the XIII Genova Film Festival. With the short film "Finisterre" won the award for best film at the Corto in Vista Festival. In 2014 he wrote, directed and produced the film "Danse Macabre" distributed in home video, on TV on Sky and on demand on Sky go and Now Tv from 30 Holding. In 2017 "Danse Macabre" won the award for best genre film at the XIX Terra di Siena
International Film Festival. In 2018 the filming of the film "Stridor in Tenebris ends", which will be released on home video and online platforms globally. In 2020, he and Carlo A. Martigli produced Episode IX of "Ten Commandments of Terror".
In 2022 two new short films were released, the comedy "La banda Colombo" and "Tra le due braccia", a drama in competition in several international festivals. In 2023 he made the short film "Nel bianco" starring Daniela Poggi.

Director Statement

ENGLISH
Into the white it is an excavation in pain, but it is also a reflection on today and how technology affects our lives and what we will leave behind. With photos and videos we obsessively post we sculpt a personality at the mercy of all, but really represents us? Only a few years ago a photograph had a value, spiritual and tangible, today it is an image, one among many. At the
same time it lays us bare, anyone can take advantage of it, sometimes hurting us.
While being deeply skeptical I have always been fascinated by what will come next. Like everything you don’t know scares us. Humanly we all struggle to accept our finiteness and that of those who are close to us. The hope of communicating with those who are no longer there is a consolation, but also the selfish awareness that beyond there is something that will last forever.

Nel bianco è uno scavo nel dolore, ma è anche una riflessione sull’oggi e su come la tecnologia influenza le nostre vite e quello che lasceremo di noi. Con fotografie e video postati ossessivamente scolpiamo una personalità alla mercé di tutti, ma realmente ci rappresenta? Solo fino a pochi anni fa una fotografia aveva un valore, spirituale e tangibile, oggi è un’immagine, una tra le tante. Allo stesso tempo ci mette a nudo, chiunque può approfittarne, talvolta facendoci del male.
Pur essendo profondamente scettico sono sempre stato affascinato da quello che verrà dopo. Come tutto ciò che non si conosce ci spaventa. Umanamente facciamo tutti fatica ad accettare la nostra finitezza e quella di chi ci è vicino. La speranza di comunicare con chi non c’è più è una consolazione, ma anche l’egoistica consapevolezza che oltre esiste qualcosa che durerà per sempre.
