Director Biography - Andrew J. Breazna

Andrew J. Breazna likes to wear many hats. He has a music hat, an engineering hat, a photography hat, and most recently a videography hat. Driven by the creative process and artistic application of science and math, Andrew’s projects often become a messy proof that creating something new is possible using what already exists.

Existing processes exists in specific contexts – and re-evaluating these contexts leads to new methods of doing things. Through testing, research, and and overall passion for the scientific method, Andrew’s projects have spanned from custom instrument amplification, to ultra-high-sensitivity analogue photography, to custom suspension solutions for vintage Volvos.

Andrew J. Breazna has received his Bachelors in Music from Purchase College studying Studio Production in 2021 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Live-Action Production at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Andrew lives and works in Rochester New York.

Director Statement

NED started as a short story about an alien exploring a future Earth that has become rid of humans. At the time, I had just returned from my own journey through an unfamiliar place – my parent’s home country, Romania. I felt simultaneously local and alien to the spaces I inhabited. Upon return home, however, the sensation never subsided. I wanted to re-tell Ned’s story and my experiences by creating the abstracted visuals experienced by Ned on his journey. Putting the viewer in Ned’s shoes, the film both adds and removes context from the world we’re already familiar with. Shot in various parks of Western New York State, I wanted to distort the familiar by distorting tonality, highlighting texture, and re-mixing spaces.
