"Rodel Jr. Artiaga is a young filmmaker hailing from Monkayo, Davao De Oro, Philippines. As a member of the esteemed Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (NABIFILMEX), Artiaga has had the opportunity to hone his skills and showcase his work to a wider audience.
In 2017, Artiaga participated in the Sine Indie 5 workshop and made his debut as a filmmaker at the 6th edition of NABIFILMEX with his film "KONAM." This powerful and thought-provoking work was selected to be part of the 15th Mindanao Film Festival and Cinema Rehiyon 11, and it received further recognition at the IN-SHORT Film Festival in Nigeria and Camera Zizaño in Europe.
Artiaga's most recent film, "Naboc (River of Gold)," was a standout at the 9th edition of NABIFILMEX, earning him the Gimadyawan Award for Best Film and Best Cinematography. He was also nominated for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editor, and Best Davao De Oro film. This important and poignant work was also programmed to be part of the 20th Mindanao Film Festival and the 10th edition of Cinekasimanwa.
As a filmmaker, Artiaga is deeply committed to sharing the unique and diverse stories of the Mindanawon people and their rich cultural landscape. With a strong vision and a talent for crafting compelling and meaningful narratives, Artiaga is poised to make a lasting impact on the world of independent cinema. He continues to push the boundaries of his craft and bring his work to new and wider audiences around the globe."
"My film, "Naboc (River of Gold)," is a story about greed and the lengths people will go to in order to get what they want. Set against the backdrop of a small, tight-knit community in the midst of a gold rush, the film explores the destructive power of desire and the consequences of letting it consume us.
At its heart, "Naboc (River of Gold)" is a character-driven drama that follows the journey of Miguel, a young man caught in the middle of the chaos and desperation surrounding the mysterious rock. As he struggles to reconcile his own greed with his loyalty to his family and community, Miguel is forced to confront the harsh realities of human nature and make a difficult decision about what is truly valuable in life.
I am excited to bring this compelling and thought-provoking story to the screen, and I believe that it has the potential to spark important conversations about the dangers of materialism and the importance of compassion and understanding. I am confident that with the talented cast and crew assembled for this project, we will be able to bring this unique and powerful vision to life."
