The story begins with our protagonist, a 20-year-old introverted and geeky college student named Amulya, arriving late for his favorite class. As a group of his intimidating classmates is busy
mocking their Physics teacher for not being able to answer a question, Amulya saves the teacher by prompting the right answer.
For having spoiled the fun in the classroom, Amulya is bullied by his classmates a little longer that day than every other time. While Amulya is having his regular lunch of maach bhaat in the canteen, he finds himself circled by his classmates who begin to poke fun at his introversion and the daily dose of macchi.

The jokes lead to an interesting conversation where all of them start sharing stories about their past love and sexual encounters. As the discussion acquires momentum, surprisingly, a reluctant Amulya dwells into the teasings and begins to narrate his experience of a mystique romance. He takes everyone to the time when he visited his maternal aunt's home in Kolkata and saw Debolina, a young, beautiful girl who lived
across the street. Their romance builds over afternoons of excitement and gestures through sneak peaks exchanged across balconies. Until one day, Debolina just vanishes.
Not being able to see her in the balcony for several days makes Amulya spend his time in sheer anticipation and anxiety. But just before the day that Amulya has to leave for Delhi, the girl
reappears and what follows in their story is an unpredicted series of captivating events.
