Director Biography - David English

David English was born in Oklahoma City in 1970 but grew up in Nashville from the time he was three years old. After attending the University School of Nashville and Hillsboro High School, David spent his senior year in Brisbane, Australia. It was in Brisbane where he won his first filmmaking competition (a festival for shorts produced and directed by Brisbane high school students) in 1989.

Returning to Nashville, David interned with Deaton Flanigen as well as L&A Productions, local firms specializing in creating commercials for the likes of Country Music Magazine and music videos for local industry artists. He studied filmmaking at New York University but decided not to pursue a career in the industry, graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in English in 1995. David's dream of becoming a documentary filmmaker would remain in his heart but "on the shelf" until digital technology drastically reduced film production costs and he discovered an opportunity to tell a compelling personal story. Little did he suspect that this story would be his own.

Director Statement

After a 30-year hiatus from the world of film and television, I produced and directed a documentary film about my experiences at Ground Zero on 9-11 and how they impacted my life and my family history. It was both a labor of love and a trial by fire that demanded tremendous sacrifice to bring to fruition, so I am grateful to finally be able to share my completed film with the world.
