My Father is Resting, at its heart, is a tribute to my Tatay (father) and his Tatay—a way to honour their sacrifices as fishermen and celebrate the quiet strength of their lives. It tells a story rooted in the depth of simplicity, where triumph isn't loud but deeply felt.
The narrative follows the bond between a father and son, as the father shares his way of life at sea, teaching his son how to navigate a life filled with hardships. This is a story of resilience—facing poverty, ambition, separation, loneliness, and family tensions not with defeat, but with grace and humility. It's a deeply personal yet universal tale that I believe will resonate with many Filipinos, sparking reflection and conversation about who we are, our roots and family ties that ground us, and the paths we forge toward the future while staying true to our identities.
