This is a video portrait Sid and I made of Raf, our friend (and my partner), who had a very rough life but had never lost his sharp sense of humor, his love for music and his awesome drawing talent. I myself had met him at the art academy more than 15 years ago, but after a while I had lost track of him. In 2021, during the worst of the first Covid quarantine in Belgium, we found him, living in a nursing home, and in the final stadium of COPD (long emphysema). He was only 52 then. We decided to make a video portrait of him, using his own drawings, writings and photos. Sidney composed the music, based on the style of music Raf loved most. We then edited the film as a music video, precisely because Raf was such a music lover - I think music was the one thing that had gotten him through that harsh life. In december 2021, I got him out of the nursing home and he came to live with me. Sadly, we didn't get as much time as we had hoped for.
