Writer Statement

Following the success of the first Dagbasi Productions’ project: the award-winning short Pink & Blue, we are so excited to share that the second project from Dagbasi Productions Founder Kaydx is Mx. Ìfẹ́dayọ̀: A narrative, sci-fi/fantasy, short film/proof-of-concept that authentically addresses the hunger for BIPOC LGBQ+ TGNC inclusive storytelling.

Whilst exploring their Igbo and Yorùbá Nigerian heritage, Kaydx discovered that QTGNC African peoples and deities exist in Yorùbá folklore and mythology. These fascinating tales are stories that they wish they’d known growing up.

Throughout the Diaspora, many are unaware of the inherent inclusivity within their heritage. These stories have been dismissed, stolen and watered down by centuries of systemic oppression. Mx. Ìfẹ́dayọ̀ is Kaydx’s opportunity to share his interpretation of ancestral stories with global audiences.

Kaydx hopes Mx. Ìfẹ́dayọ̀ will encourage Diasporic audiences to reflect on how daily decisions impact lineage, community, and legacy while engaging their ancestral history and mythology. He is so excited to add to the growing cannon of Black Sci-Fi visual art stories.
