Director Statement

Mutual Love began as a simple idea of two characters going on a journey and the audience coming along for the ride, not knowing who the characters are or where they are going. However, as I continued to work on the script, I realized that the story really came out of a deep place in my heart, where I was asking myself, “When do you stop fighting for a relationship?” I wanted to tell a story of two people desiring to reconnect with each other despite their differences and the hurts life has given them. I have been asked why I wrote the story about a brother and sister and not about friends or two ex-lovers. The simple answer is that there are very few films that focus on sibling relationships, and yet family is one of the most important parts of society. As I have talked to various people about the film, one of the most common responses is that they want their brother or sister to watch the movie. So many families are broken, and yet everyone deep down longs for reconciliation. I want to tell a story about that. I want to show everyone that every relationship has hope.
