Murky Waters
In an attempt to assist and rescue refugees arriving on the island of Lesbos in 2015, Mo Abassi winds up being arrested and accused of human trafficking. Through numerous meetings with his defense attorney, Knud Foldschack, Mo is forced to account for every step and action made by him and his team of volunteers. As we witness the actual events leading up to the arrest Mo’s attorney becomes increasingly worrisome regarding critical but unaccountable pieces of evidence.

Martin B. Gulnov graduated from the International Film School of Wales specialising in directing and writing before doing an MA in Film at University of Copenhagen (2014). Martin has since explored and specialised in combining storytelling and documentary filmmaking both commercially and independently.
Little did I know that my journey to Lesbos (Greece) to assist refugees would turn into an 8-year endeavor to complete a film about the legal and moral complexity of humans helping humans.
In Europe we’ve seen a disturbing and increasing trend of criminalizing civilians trying to aid those in need and it should raise serious concerns for the entire human world.
I felt obligated to bring this story to light, with the hope of enlightening others and sparking a necessary dialogue. Allowing such a case to go unnoticed not only poses a significant threat to the overall well-being of humanity but also challenges the fundamental principles that underpin our democratic foundations.
