July 4, 2018 UPDATE!

The Mt Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival held from June 28, 2018 ~ July 1, 2018 was a smash success! With over 1500 film entries and more than 1800 guests and celebrities attending at our Gala Opening Night, that makes Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival by far the biggest and most successful Indies film festival in all of Japan – and arguably bigger than even the Tokyo International Film Festival as our submissions numbers and Opening Night attendance beats them by a wide margin.

The Mt. Fuji – Atami International Film & VR Festival Executive Committee would like to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all our guests, movie stars, event staff, wonderful volunteers, our supporters, financial backers, Apple Inc. and our supporting film festivals! And last but not least, we need to thank the wonderful people of the city of Atami, the Atami Geisha Guild, Atami Chamber of Commerce, Atami Tourism Association, Atami hotels, Mayor Saito of Atami and his great staff at the Atami City Hall, and all our fantastic and talented filmmakers!

We can’t thank you all enough!

We look forward to seeing you all again in 2019! Once again, thank you all so very much for your time, efforts, support and most kind consideration!

Sincerely,

Mike Rogers
Founder/International Director

Honored to be a part of the first Atami Film Festival. Great atmosphere and picturesque location. One of the top tier Japanese film festivals in terms of professionalism, organization and quality. The domestic distribution connections are what make this festival essential for independent filmmakers.

    Dear Mami san,
Thanks so so much for attending our festival. It was more than wonderful having you and your great film, "A Sleeping Dream" in our competition. It's a great film! Good luck to you and wishes for many more awards to come!

I am so proud to be part of this festival. I enjoyed so many good films and met great Film makers both from Japan and other countries. What impressed me the most is the hospitality of the committee, they treated us film makers like Super Stars and they invited really famous and influential personalities in the entertainment industry to party and interact with us, that was a great experience and opportunity for us independent film makers. As this was their first event, there were some few shortcomings. I think the projector in Sunmi Hotel needs to
be replaced with a better one. Also it's better to hire and recruit more experienced translators as there are many foreigner guests and please also look into improving the ticket selling and make it more
efficient and clear. Just my personal request, I hope that the screenings will be all done on Weekends. My movie was screened on a Friday afternoon, so many of the people I invited didn't make it because they have jobs, however the other movies in the same category (Independent Short films)had a jam packed room because their screening day was held on a Sunday and many guests were able to come. For me the number of audience who watched my film is more important than awards. Other than these things I mentioned above the event was a success! Atami is the best place to hold a film festival because it's not too far away from Tokyo and it has a very nostalgic old Japanese local town. Not only that visitors can see great movies produced from around the world but they can also experience the fine traditional Japanese tourism activities like Hot springs, sightseeing of good landscapes (Beach and Mountains) and dining in authentic Japanese restaurants. I believe that The Mt. Fuji Atami International Film and VR Festival has a very bright future ahead. I am looking forward to your events in the future and I definitely want to join again! Congratulations and More Power!
