Mr. Punch

Mr. Punch tells a story about a traditionally known character, who wakes up in one day. His freedom is limited and his life cannot go beyond that theater room. He is caught between dream and reality and is unable to decipher the two. The character, Mr. Punch was traditionally a puppet show that featured a grotesque mirror of society that often ended in a situation to slap someone. The short film was made by a single artist from idea to final film in less than 10 months.

Director Biography - Ádám Müller

Adam Muller is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. He is 38 years old. Originally born in Hungary but lived in Malta, and several other countries before relocating to Spain. Art was always present in his life. As a restless teenager, he channeled his anxiety, fears, and humor to the stage of the theater. On the personal level, he used his artistic expressions to face the challenges of coming out as a gay person in the 90es and the early ages of 2000 in Hungary where homosexuality was still taboo. In 2013 he decided to end his carrier in Hungary. He moved to Malta to take a break from the art world and lived as a scuba diver for a couple of years. In 2017 he got „married” and decided to move to Spain, ready to find his new mediums as an artist, and started a new university study in the carrier of Art and Design, in ESAT – School of innovation. He graduated in 2021. After finishing his study he quickly jumped to start to organize his own exhibitions online and offline. He also finished Mr. Punch, the Short Animation movie that received positive critiques on how he united Theater and Art in a new piece of artwork. Mr. Punch that was premiered in June of 2021, is going to be featured in several festivals around the globe. Also, he’s working on doing street performances and exhibitions in the near future.

Director Statement

Adam Muller is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. His artworks are edgy, contemporary, and often bouncing between (sur)realist and graphic elements. He also has an attraction to the male physic and body language that regularly includes him in his paintings. He doesn't have a favorite medium, he works from traditional painting techniques, like watercolor, acrylic, or oil, to digital art, like digital painting, vector graphics, photography, videography, and animation. His upbringing, education, and childhood in Hungary during the system change always played a big role in his choices in his theme and aesthetics. His critical thinking is the way that comes from his early years when he worked in the theater industry in Hungary for more than 10 years. He also has the influence of puppets. In the end, his artworks intend to provoke hidden feelings and questions of life. He wants to invite people to have fun and open up dialogs that help to improve our daily life. He is 38 years old and lives in Spain.
