Director Statement

In 1978, three skiers managed to ski across the state of Colorado, becoming the first to accomplish the feat. That was what they set out to achieve, and that was the story I intended to make this film about. But we both arrived at different destinations than we set out for, realizing there was a much deeper meaning to the story we were creating.

For these three skiers, in near-solitude for weeks at a time, completely immersed in the beauty of the wilderness, they emerged inspired to interpret their experience into art. For me, it was a realization that this journey was as much about internal discovery as it was external accomplishment. Their accomplishment is significant to Colorado history and to ski history. But the internal discovery is a shared experience between everyone who feels inspired by the great outdoors. I made this film to shine the spotlight on something I felt is important to my home state of Colorado. I made it for skiers, from all generations. But this film is really about that spark of inspiration we all feel when we are outside, immersed in the beauty of the wilderness.
