Mourning Glories is a heartfelt and sensitive celebration of life and love.
In media, death and mortuary practices are often depicted negatively. I wanted this film to reframe that narrative, and give flowers to the creativity and care that Morticians have for their craft. During the writing process I visited a mortuary and interviewed the staff, and read extensively on the subject.
The relationship between Debbie and Peter, is of two people at very different periods of life. Although Debbie may be close to death in the physical sense - her eyes are opened to the fragility of life by Peter, who has felt a loss she can only fathom.
The project was funded via crowdfunder with 166 supporters, after an intense social media and event campaign. We used this funding to build the set. We are grateful to everyone involved!
