With a mission to enlighten, celebrate, and enrich, the Mountain Film Festival fosters appreciation for the art of movie making and its power to inspire and communicate a richness of ideas and cultures. We accept films of all genres and especially encourage films with an emphasis on mountain culture, action sports, and environmental issues.
The Mountain Film Festival recognizes and awards some of the world's finest and cutting-edge independent Feature Films, Shorts, Documentaries, Foreign Films, Student Films, Mountain Films, Adventure Sports Films, Music Videos, Animations, and Experimental Films. The event also features an annual Screenplay Competition.
Awards are presented in all of the main competition categories in a variety of tiers for top films and filmmakers. The coveted Grand Jury Award is presented to the best film in competition along with various Special Jury Prizes recognizing standout work.
The Mountain Film Festival along with its Mountain Film Awards, were created as a platform to provide recognition to the most finely made and exemplary films, screenplays, and those filmmakers, writers, and artists who demonstrate excellence and originality in their work and crafts.
The Mountain Film Festival is an awards based film and screenplay competition. Films are not physically screened for the public. Awards are announced on our official website as well as promoted via Internet. It is requested, though not required, that awards won be mentioned in the promotional materials of the films or projects being awarded. Awarded films may be also displayed on our official YouTube channel and our social media channels at the discretion of the winning filmmakers.
The art of independent film and mountain culture are at the core of the Mountain Film Festival. We look forward to viewing your works and wish you the best in this year's competition!

Grand Jury Award
Awarded to the best film, of any competition category, as selected by a jury of industry professionals.
Best Feature Film
Awarded to the best feature film in competition.
Best Foreign Film
The best feature length narrative or documentary from outside the United States.
The best documentary film in competition.
Awarded for the best direction from among all films.
Best Actor / Actress
Awarded for the best performances from among all films.
Best Short Film
Awarded to the best short film in competition.
Best Student Film
Awarded to the best student film in competition.
Best Adventure Sports Film
Best film about extreme or high-impact adventure sports.
Best Environmental or Mountain Culture Film
Best film concerning environmental issues or mountain culture.
Awarded to the best animated film in competition.
Best Music Video
Awarded to the best music video in competition.
Best Television Pilot
Awarded to the best television pilot in competition.
The Sir Edmund Hillary Awards will be awarded to deserving projects from each official competition category at the discretion of the judges.
The Sierra Nevada Awards will be awarded to deserving projects from each official competition category at the discretion of the judges.
The Seven Summits Awards will be awarded to deserving projects from each official competition category at the discretion of the judges.

Rules and Regulations for Film Entry
Please carefully read all rules and regulations prior to submitting your work.
All fiction, documentary, and short films of any genre can apply to the Mountain Film Festival. Films should have been completed no earlier than three years prior to the submission date.
Works in progress are accepted.
For mail-in entries, send your entry in a sturdy container or bubble wrap envelope. Please clearly mark your entry with film name, category (short, documentary, etc.) and contact information.
If you are burning a consumer disc please write your project title and contact email on the disc with a Sharpie pen. Please test your consumer-burned DVD before sending it to us.
The Mountain Film Festival will announce its award winners on February 10, 2015.
Although every possible care will be taken with films while in our possession, we cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage en route. Always make sure you have a back-up copy of your project.
You agree to indemnify us and hold us and our employees, owners, affiliates, and partners harmless from all claims and liability associated with your participation or entry to the Mountain Film Festival.
The cost of shipping an entry to the Mountain Film Festival must be paid by the entrant. All international entries must be sent with all transportation charges, duties, and taxes prepaid by the shipper.
For Foreign Films
Please mark your customs form "No commercial value, for cultural purposes only."
Entrants must assume all responsibility for clearing films, videotapes, and screenplays through U.S. and foreign customs officials.
You may include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for notification of receipt of entry.
The selection committees' and juries' decisions are final.
The Mountain Film Festival reserves the right to make any necessary changes in regulations or scheduling.
Awards will be presented to the best film in each of the main competitive categories including the Screenplay Competition and Special Jury prizes. Screenplay prizes are awarded for an Overall Grand Prize Winner, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th place and 10 Official Finalists. We accept both short and feature length screenplays.
Submissions must include the completed Entry Form and a copy of the film. We can also view your film online if you provide us with a URL (YouTube, Vimeo, etc).
Films submitted to our competition are reviewed by our programming department and judges, which evaluate each film fairly and thoroughly, looking for the best in new American and International cinema.
For films in a language other than English, we require English subtitles.
Awards will be announced publicly on February 10, 2015 . Winning films are encouraged to promote and mention their award as well as the Mountain Film Festival in all promotional materials.
As of the 2011 edition, the Mountain Film Festival is now an awards based online event. Awards are announced on our official website as well as promoted via Internet. Films will not be screened for the public.
By participating in the Mountain Film Festival you expressly agree to all Rules and Regulations.
