Mount Pleasant

While “Mount Pleasant” is set during the Wild West, it can best be described as an anti-western. It's based on the true history of the US government stealing children from Native American families. This story starts in 1889, in the Oklahoma Territory, as LOLA waits for the return of her brother from Mount Pleasant Indian School. She tries to support her father on the Fort Sill Reservation, but he struggles with guilt of not being able to protect his son when the government took him away ten years ago. Lola believes that if her brother can return, he will heal her father and reunite the family. However, Quannah does not return, and not only this, the other returning children do not know who he is. Horrified that something may have happened to him, Lola decides to risk her life by leaving the reservation and looking for her brother at the school. She will have to discover her own strength to fight against the school’s disturbing re-education practices and the personal vendettas of those who run it.

Mount Pleasant is the story of a war between the Old West and the New all through the eyes of one determined girl.
