Mother's Always Right
Evelyn, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, is moving into her newly inherited home. Her mother was never the warmest person, always needing things done her way. Evelyn tentatively moves between the living room shelves, placing pictures and trinkets. Her husband Damian tries to help, but after she changes what he’s done, he goes to work on another room and give her some space. Evelyn tediously arranges her things, ensuring that photo albums are stacked shortest to tallest and that picture frames are at the exact right angle. However, the things she has arranged keep getting switched or put back somehow. There’s no one else in the room with her. She finally confronts this as her mother’s doing, rebelling by pulling down the centerpiece hurricane lamp. Objects crash and fall, and after Damian comes rushing in, Evelyn realizes she needs to end this cycle of controlling behavior, for her family. She accepts her husband’s idea for their centerpiece as her first act of letting go: A beautiful wedding photo of the two of them.
