Dance For Moses: Hypnogogic Image

Copyright Henkydory Films 2017
A experimental short.
--created to be submitted as a bumper between shorts at festivals--

"Moses, the biblical character, is known to have traveled 40 years in the desert. Many people begin to hallucinate when deprived of water after a few hours in the desert.

Hypnogogic Imagery is a psychological term referring to the images that arrive in the beginning of a dream-state when a person begins to fall to sleep.

This experimental short attempts to recreate the emotion of disorientation a personal feels when dehydrated or beginning to fall to sleep. A time when the subconscious mind directs the thoughts of the conscious mind." Henk Conn

This experimental short was created by the artist to express irreverence in a time when there is a strong philosophical discord in world. The artist is confused by the continued diminishment of violence and loss of life around the world, and the increasing sensationalized story-of-the-day. The artist feels isolated and confused.

This experimental short also expresses the artist's desire to shed the cliche that comes with age. At the brink of turning 50, the artist chooses to fearlessly act silly and sophomoric. Without concern of possible judgment from his peers or cohorts, he celebrates life's uncertainty by being mindful of the greater truth of life.

While it is not apparent here, in his youth the artist did study ballet for many years. While participating in numerous live arts events, the artist performed and choreographed small bumpers between performances. The artist uses experiences of his past, to express where he is today.
