I've always been fascinated with psychology and especially hypochondria which is an illness anxiety disorder. It's the result of an inaccurate perception of the condition of body or mind despite the absence of an actual medical condition. I was watching an episode of "Criminal Minds" and they mentioned this condition but a different type called, Morgellons, which is a form of delusional parasitosis; a controversial condition involving skin lesions and the belief that the skin is infected by bugs and other objects.
This condition has always fascinated me since high school because I have always picked at my skin, particularly my scalp, and thus, this story formed. I am also terrified of bugs.
I researched more on the illness and discovered that it can be associated with schizophrenia and that causes an increased to the delusions. In no way did I intentionally depict mental illness in a negative way, with this film. I am a strong advocate for mental illness awareness and would like for more people to understand mental illnesses and this one particularly and research on their own that this is in fact an illness and should be taken seriously.
