(En español, debajo) The Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival is the first film festival in Uruguay dedicated to the dissemination of national and international works, related to horror, fantasy and science fiction genres. Its objective is to annually present independent and ultra-independent productions that are often considered "minor" and that hardly access to the commercial and cultural circuit.

The Festival has sections dedicated to short and long feature films in competition, as well as exhibitions and parallel shows where classics are exhibited, also as a tribute to different figures of the genre and presented by various specialists.

Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival has been declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture, of Municipal Interest by the Intendance of Montevideo, and of Tourist Interest by the Ministry of Tourism in Uruguay.

It had spaces in the Punta del Este International Film Festival, LatinUy Film Festival ("Cinema Fantasy" section, in La Barra), Piriápolis de Película International Film Festival ("FantaPiria" section), as well as in several foreign genre festivals ("Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre" from ARGENTINA; Brasilia International Fantastic Film Festival from BRAZIL; "FIXIÓN Fest", from Santiago, CHILE; "Zinema Zombie Fest" from Bogotá, COLOMBIA).

Thank you, Pablo! Also for your return with another good short film like "Están entre nosotros". A very funny animation!

  • Kevin Beauchamp

I desperately wanted to attend the festival but due to scheduling conflicts could not. Cannot speak about the networking aspect of the festival, but the communication was top notch.

I will definitely submit future projects to this festival.

Much love to everyone at Montevideo Fantastico!

    Response from festival:

Thank you for your comments, Roberto! And yes, a two-minute short film like Paranoia led to a nearly 20-minute talk among some of the audience, and after the exhibition, about silent and avant-garde cinema. These are the surprises that sometimes come with this small independent film festival. Thanks again for your support!

  • Great festival. Quality film programming and very good communication. Overall very nice experience.

Thank you, Thorsten! The film programme is the most important thing for us at this independent film festival. And films like Flesh City have made a difference in our last edition. A film that is risky, talented, creative and made with practically no budget. Congratulations on the award for Best Director!
