Monologue
"Monologue is a short documentary film that intimately captures the life of Heyam Encü, a mother who tragically lost two of her sons. In 2011, Turkish warplanes killed 34 civilians in Robozik, including Heyam's 16-year-old son. The film follows Heyam's daily routines as she cares for the horses and goats left behind by her children and visits their graves with their dogs. Through Heyam's poignant monologues, we witness the depth of her pain and the impact of the loss on her life. Monologue is a heartfelt portrayal of a mother's grief and her unwavering love for her children."

As a filmmaker, my goal has always been to use the power of storytelling to bring attention to important social and human rights issues. With Monologue, I had the privilege of intimately following the life of Heyam Encü, a mother who lost two of her sons in a devastating attack. Her resilience and courage in the face of unimaginable loss is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and it was my goal to capture that in this film.
Through my background in documentary photography and filmmaking, I aimed to create a visual language that would transport the audience into Heyam's world, and allow them to connect with her story on a deeper level. It was important to me to let Heyam's own words and emotions guide the narrative, and to create a space where her story could be told in a raw and honest way.
I believe that Monologue has the power to not only honor Heyam's sons and the other victims of this tragedy but also to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict and human rights violations in the region. My hope is that this film can serve as a call to action for audiences around the world to take a stand against violence and work towards a more just and peaceful future.
