Director Biography - Alexandria Anfield

A northern lass originally from the City of Hull, who loves the colour yellow and doing a jigsaw. I can get very nerdy about theatre history, food, and geography. Over the past ten years, I have made theatre from tiny pub theatres and community halls to UK Tours and across the world. Monochromatic is my film directing debut and have been fortunate enough to work with such a fabulous beautiful team.

Director Statement

Monochromatic is based on the true story of Malin and her own self-portrait. A young woman who found art helped her live with her psychosis. The NHS is underfunded and overstretched and waiting lists for talking therapies are at an all time high. People are falling through the cracks. During our research, we were shocked to discover that young women were the most commonly affected by psychosis.
Monochromatic brought together a northern team of individuals who had never worked together before but who shared the same vision in telling this story.
For those living with various conditions, many do not voice how they are feeling. It is what is not said and what is not seen. It was important for Jordan and I, to work together, bringing the correct colour gradients to each moment and helping the audience go on Hannah's journey.
