Mommy

In a yellow house, inhabited by memories of a large family that began to form when she was 18 years old, Mommy, now widow and on the verge of turning 72, finds herself alone because of the social isolation imposed by the pandemic of Covid- 19, which also arrived in the interior of Minas, state of Brazil, and haunts the local people. All the children got married, had their children and left the nest. In the absence of children and grandchildren, she spends her time with household chores, prayers, blessings, cooking, conversations with plants and phone calls from her children. On this particular day, something is about to happen that she could never have imagined and her routine can definitely be transformed. A film with the smell and taste of childhood, flowers, fish, river. An encouragement to those elderly people who are separated from their families in this delicate moment of humanity. Mommy is an example of how the joy of living is in the little things and in the simplicity of her human and deeply welcoming existence.

Director Biography - Jean Mendonça

Diretor, ator, roteirista, dramaturgo e produtor mineiro radicado no Rio de Janeiro, fundador da Cia Banquete Cultural. Estudou artes cênicas no Rio (CAL) e em Minas (SESIMINAS e SESC). Pós-graduando em Roteiro pela Universidade Veiga de Almeida no Rio de Janeiro.
No cinema, produziu e dirigiu o elenco do curta-metragem “Negrinho” (2015), “Não sei qual cidade se passa aos olhos dele” (2019) em importantes Festivais de Cinema Independente (Mostra do Filme Livre no Brasil, Festival Amazônia Doc entre os países da Pan-Amazônia, Museu de Imagem e Som e nos Encontros Internacionais Cinema & Território em Portugal), longa-metragem no qual assina a produção e a direção de performers. No filme "Anjinho de asa negra" (2019), assina a direção, roteiro e montagem. Também é co-autor do filme “Flores ao vento” (2018), autor da série “Diadorim – Às veredas mortas de seus verdes olhos” (2017) e co-autor do filme “Negrinho” (2015). Em 2020, idealizou, escreveu, dirigiu e atuou numa trilogia de curtas-metragens sobre o isolamento social nos tempos de pandemia, sendo eles “Aos meus filhos”, “Sem horas de mim” e “Mãezinha”.
