Born and raised in the steel town of Hamilton, Ontario, Nathan Powell is positively obsessed with characters and theme. He believes that film and storytelling are the only reliable media we have for changing people's hearts and minds, and that our empathy has an incredible power.
Model Railroad is an exploration of loneliness, masculinity, and the popular delusion that docile, angry men are "nice". This film comes from an honest look at some of the difficult friendships I've had over the years, and the people I've had to part ways with out of sheer concern for my well being. It's difficult viewing at times, but with darkly comedic moments. I have heard it described as "Jane Austen meets Office Space meets incels", and I think that is apt.
