Brock is an LA-based film and video director, editor, writer and producer currently working in theatrical marketing. As a filmmaker, Brock's work has been shown across the country under his production banner, Mellow Valley Media, which began with the short film "The New Year". The comedies "JoJo" and "We're Gathered Here" have also been well received at film festivals in his work as a director and, as an editor with ShowFriends LA, his work has been featured on Funny or Die.
My co-producer and lead actor, AJ, wrote this scene to showcase his talents, and ended up creating a very personal and relatable short meditation on what it means to be Black and to take ownership of his identity even in largely white spaces. Both actors put it all on the table when it came to getting physical and showing how things can hurt more deeply than they might let on when it comes to discussing race and masculinity between two men. It was a honor to share this with AJ.
