Writer. Entrepreneur. Environmental Activist. Theater Veteran. Marta “Missy M” Jorgensen is many things, a sort of “Jill of All Trades” for the creative arts. Born and raised in 1950’s New Jersey, the self-proclaimed urban storyteller left the Garden State for the sunny shores of California. Using film, television, and the stage as portals through which to grant a glimpse of the perpetual motion of her mind, the seasoned playwright has been creating since the 1990’s.
Similar to her eclectic supporters, Marta has honed a particularly mixed bag of skillsets. From technical writing to creative content to hard-hitting journalism to photography to music production, she’s done it all. After a 28-year nursing career, she owned and operated Point and Click Media School, a computer training facility. Using only her own money and perseverance, Marta also ran a successful Democratic Primary campaign in 2008, becoming a Congressional Nominee in the CA CD 24. Is there anything she can’t do? Nope. In 2017, she raised $4K for a play production through successful crowd funding.
In addition to working as a teacher’s assistant, Marta currently owns and operates MJAM Music Publishing, an indie music and theater company. She has written and pitched several movie projects in Hollywood, as well as written and recorded songs that have made it to radio under her alias Missy M. Some of her screenplays include Games of Solitaire and Young Leonardo. TV series, Homeworld: Book of Althea, explores a new twist on familiar sci-fi themes. Her keen interest in media, politics, and social commentary have birthed her latest comedic musical, Tabloid, which pokes fun at the media. The play has already received favorable reviews. Kerr Lockhart writes, “TABLOID by Marta Jorgensen is a mad, extravagant CANDIDE- in- reverse carnival, ... If you find THE SIMPSONS too subtle, JERRY SPRINGER too polite, and the SUN too fancy and elegant, you will be right at home in the world of TABLOID.”
Marta holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Theater Arts: Writing and Production with a minor in Music from Santa Barbara City College. She also has a certificate in Film and Television Writing from UCLA. When she isn’t pouring her positive attitude into activism, creating, or Congress, you can find the writer restoring cars, cooking, or building thingsu.
