Missing Snacks
In the bustling streets of Lebuh Ampang, SERAGU (73) offers to one of his clients, BHANI (40) the chance to start a Putu Mayam business. Bhani is willing to take over and set up the stalls every day. However, the looming rainy season threatens their plans, with heavy rain often causing disruptions in sales.
Bhani continues and serves customers as usual with wrapping Putu Mayam and other snacks. Pass by sometimes, road traffic in front of his stall becomes worse with the rain as the cars keep honking around. Seragu stops doing other things at his mini market and monitors Bhani’s operation.
Seragu restricts Bhani from opening the putu mayam stall during certain hours, intending to manage costs and ensure quality control. As a result, the empty place lacks the lively atmosphere that draws in customers, leaving it quiet and uninviting without the enticing aroma of fresh putu mayam wafting through the air. However, the mini market besides, which is also under Seragu’s management, continues to attract foot traffic, providing a lifeline for their business as they navigate these limitations.
As Bhani is absent temporarily, Seragu sits alone, looking around at the empty streets and feeling a deep sense of loneliness as fewer customers arrive. Some regular customers come and look for the Putu Mayam stall but end up leaving empty hand. In response to this challenging situation, Seragu reflects on his past business memories by showing pictures, reminding himself of better days and considering ways to revive interest in his stall.
Seragu decides to let Bhani open the stalls on days when the weather permits, hoping to attract more customers despite the challenges. As the day ends and sales remain low, Seragu takes the remaining unsold snacks and decides to donate them to the temple, feeling a sense of purpose in helping others. Later, Seragu walks to the stall and talks with Bhani looking forward to another day of sharing his cultural heritage through Putu Mayam, ready to face the challenges ahead.
