Missing Manuel

Ro Olivares was born in Los Andes on October 18, 1988. He is a 4th year student at the Chilean Film School. In the development of audiovisual projects, he has shown his interest in the directing department and has worked on different themes with a common pattern, reflecting through the screen the contingent social issues that demand reflection.

Ro's creative processes respond to stories fragmented in time and space, whose ultimate goal is to find gear between the planes. The main characters are usually ordinary people with unique experiences.

He is currently preparing his graduation feature film called "Playa Escondida"

Ro has directed the following audiovisual pieces:

"THE BRIGADE" (2019). Documentary short about the rescue of an injured brigade member during the demonstrations of the social outbreak in Chile. The audiovisual piece was part of the official selection of the festivals "Ojo Móvil 2020" (Peru), "Cinema and Human Rights Festival 2021" (Puerto Rico) and "Festival La Ventana 2020" (Chile).

"CHRISTOPHER" (2019). Fiction short film that tells the story of a minor and his mother who are seen in the middle of an assault / gate. The piece was made in the context of the "48 Hours Film Project".

"LIBERTY" (2019). Short Documentary about clients facing the closure of the Liberty Heritage Bar in Valparaíso. Memories of all the moments lived, drinks and friendships emerge in the work.

"ALIENS" (2020). It is a Short Documentary that tells the story of two Chileans who, after the closure of borders due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, ask for humanitarian aid to return to Chile from Buenos Aires and Madrid, respectively. The audiovisual piece was part of the "Collection of Chilean Cinema in Pandemic" of the Virtual Cineteca of the University of Chile (2021).
