Miss You
My mother Lisa has been saving her favorite answering machine messages for a decade. I record her recording others, so that neither of us will forget. Layering 16mm family home movies with archival home movies from strangers, this film asks: What happens if we don't let go of the past? What does it mean to remember? And, is Gertrude Stein right, that when we return to places of the past, “There is no there there”?
Miss You won best documentary short at the 2021 Vidlings & Tapeheads Film Festival, and was a selected short at the 2020 Boston Jewish Film Festival, San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and Coney Island Film Festival.
