Writer Biography - Katie Jefferis

Katie Jefferis is a screenwriter, director, and producer whose films portray authentic female experience on screen. Not only does she create dynamic, believable characters for actresses to embody but she mobilizes women behind the camera — as cinematographers, producers, editors, and sound designers.

Katie is currently shopping multiple scripts: ‘Alice,’ a feature bio-pic about expressionist portrait painter Alice Neel; ‘Pancakes for One,’ a comedy about an uptight anthropologist who inherits a clown school; and ‘Black Mountain,’ a historical miniseries set in the 1940s at the experimental arts college outside Asheville, North Carolina.

She has written, directed, produced, and edited five short films. Her first film as writer, director, and editor was used for international promotion of the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. Films she has helped create have screened at festivals in New York and abroad. Most recently her debut feature, ‘Mind Games’ was a semi-finalist for the 2020 Sundance Feature Film Development Track. She holds a Bachelors in Performance Studies from Northwestern and a Masters in Filmmaking from Brooklyn College/CUNY.
