Mexcala
In Mezcala de la Asunción, the last native population residing along the shores of Mexico's largest lake, a father and son navigate a dual struggle. While dealing with the constant pressures of those seeking to claim their ancestral land, they also confront the impact of chronic kidney disease—a condition that affects much of their community. Created following the philosophy of ethnofiction, this short film offers an intimate glimpse into their fight for survival and the preservation of their identity.

Born a city child, Walter Andrés Lagarda Parra has, however, always felt attracted to nature. His first approaches to the cinematic art occurred while studying biology, capturing images from the natural world. At the age of 23 he graduated from film school at Universidad de Medios Audiovisuales CAAV in Guadalajara, Mexico. He has also explored the creation of music, exhibiting some of his work as a director and composer at different festivals inside and outside his country. His most recent work, Mexcala, is an exploration of the ethnofiction genre made in collaboration with the indigenous community of Mezcala de la Asuncion.
