Sonny goes to a performing arts high school in New York City. He's a stoner musician who is popular at his school but when he is arrested and put on probation, he's forced to make a choice between making smarter decisions or not taking responsibility for his life. He lives with his mother, who is divorced from Sonny's dad, and she is seeing someone that she works with, and Sonny is having trouble accepting the current state of his family life. But a girl named Evelyn, who goes to school with Sonny, has a crush on him, although she dislikes his lifestyle choices and she encourages him to try and think for himself.
