Director Statement

At eighteen, I worked in social care, supporting adult men with autism and other complex needs. It shaped my understanding of care as both an act of selflessness and an emotional burden —one that doesn’t pause for personal crises. In Mercy, a young woman, returning to work too soon after an abortion, finds herself at the intersection of duty and personal healing. The film asks: where does care end and self-care begin?
