Note on the pandemic of Coronavirus:

In the middle of this virus that we all face, we Festival Mental want you all to know that regardless of the coronavirus situation, all your movies will be watched and considered. Our Festival is still on track as it happens later in the year, but, even if this changes, any movies that have been submitted so far and all the ones to come will be assessed and screened, if selected, in the postponed edition or in next year’s edition. So please, do not stop submitting your movies to the festival or think that the ones which have been submitted will not be watched. All of them will be watched by the jury and will have a chance to be in the 4th edition of Festival Mental, be it in the settled date, a postponed one, or next year!

We are sending you all good energy and hope you are taking care of yourselves, physically and mentally and are looking forward to seeing all of your movies, in such time when mental health is increasingly important to talk about.

MENTAL - Festival of Mental Health, Cinema, Arts and Information
invites artists to submit their audiovisual works exploring a theme on the vast world of Mental Health to be an integral part of the 2020 Mental Festival edition taking place during September/October this year.
In this edition, we are especially interested in films about our M-Talks Themes this particular year: ECOANXIETY, DRUGS, AND MENTAL DISEASE VS. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY, although all topics on mental health, in general, are eligible. EcoAnxiety is priority,

Mental Júnior: a special place for children's / youth film program.

The maximum duration of the movie sent will be 60'.

convida os artistas a submeter as suas obras sobre a temática da Saúde Mental, para ser parte integrante da selecção oficial da edição Festival Mental 2020, a acontecer durante Setembro/Outubro deste ano.
Nesta edição, estamos especialmente interessados ​​em filmes que abordam mais profundamente os temas principais de que iremos falar este ano: ECO- ANSIEDADE, DROGAS E DOENÇA MENTAL VS DEFICIÊNCIA INTELECTUAL, embora todos os temas sobre saúde mental em geral sejam elegíveis. Eco-Ansiedade é tema priorittário.

Mental Júnior: o festival inclui a programação de cinema infanto/juvenil..

A duração máxima do filme enviado será de 60’.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

1. All submitted work must be original with production after 2016, and the submitter must either have festival rights to the film or permission to submit it..

2. Please ensure that non-English language films have English language subtitles.

3. Films previously submitted to other festivals may be considered.

4. There is a submission fee - this fee helps us to cover the cost of running the competition and the festival. The festival is led by Safe Space Portugal, a registered charity in Portugal.

If you cannot cover the cost of the entry fee, please contact us.

SELECTION PROCESS

1. The MENTAL Film Awards jury will be comprised of people with backgrounds in film, in mental health, or both. The decisions of the jury are final. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide feedback on films which have not been selected.

2. The winning films selected by the jury will be screened during the festival MENTAL and Mental Júnior (September/October 2020).

3. Selected films MUST provide a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in order to be screened.
We cannot pay for screening copy costs or shipping to the festival.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. All films submitted must have full festival clearance, including written consent/contracts, were appropriate for individuals identifiable within the film (paid or unpaid), full musical clearance and third-party clearance. It is also the responsibility of the person submitting the film to ensure that any necessary agreements are in place and valid prior to submission. By submitting a film, the person doing so guarantees that all required permissions have been obtained.

2. We may utilise clips of the films to be screened in order to publicise the festival and related events. Submission of an entry form is considered granting the festival permission to do so.

3. High resolution still images will be requested for all winning films.

PROCESSO DE SUBMISSÃO

1. Todos os trabalhos devem ser originais e o candidato deve deter o direitos do filme bem como a permissão para o submeter a esta candidatura com produção posterior a 2016.
2. Se o filme estiver em língua portuguesa (não é obrigatório), deve chegar legendado em inglês, dado que poderá ser visionado internacionalmente.

3. Filmes que tenham sido candidatos a outros Festivais podem ser submetidos.

4. Há um fee de submissão – este fee ajuda-nos a cobrir o custo da competição e do festival. Este festival é produzido pela Safe Space Portugal, Associação registada e sem fins lucrativos.

PROCESSO DE SELECÇÃO

1. O juri do MENTAL Film Awards é composto por pessoas com formação em cinema, em saúde mental, ou ambos. As decisões do juri são definitivas. Infelizmente, não podemos fornecer feedback sobre os filmes que não foram seleccionados, a não ser que um ou mais elementos do júri, por sua iniciativa, entendam fazê-lo.

2. Os filmes vencedores, seleccionados pelo juri, serão exibidos durante a edição do festival MENTAL e Mental Júnior, (Setembro/Outubro de 2020).

3. Para que os filmes seleccionados possam ser exibidos em sala, é necessária uma cópia em formato DCP (Digital Cinema Package).

Não assumimos as despesas de transcrições nem de envio por correio.

CONDIÇÕES DE CANDIDATURA

1. Todos os filmes propostos têm de ter autorização sem restrições para o festival, incluindo consentimento/contrato escritos, quando apropriado, para todos os indivíduos identificados no filme (remunerados ou não remunerados), autorização musical sem restrições, bem como de terceiros. É também da responsabilidade de quem apresenta a proposta garantir que quaisquer acordos necessários estão devidamente estabelecidos antes da submissão.
Ao submeter o filme, têm de estar garantidas todas as autorizações necessárias.

2. Poderemos fazer uso de clips dos filmes a serem exibidos com o objectivo de promover o festival e eventos relacionados. A submissão do formulário de candidatura implica automaticamente a autorização para tal.

3. Aos vencedores serão posteriormente pedidas imagens em alta resolução.

    We were so honored to have our film, 'Mad Lonely', screened at Festival Mental. We cannot stress enough, the importance of this festival, its dedication to mental health, and what it meant to us to be a part of it. They were incredibly kind, communicative, and patient through the entire process, particularly in regards to assisting with the creation of our Portuguese subtitles. Though we were not able to attend, we look forwarding to submitting again, and watching this festival continue to grow. Thank you!

    Festival Mental will go down as one of the most important film festivals in the world with it's focus on mental health. We are very thankful to have been invited and awarded and I hope we'll be invited back with our next short. Thank you so very much for existing.
