Mental

“MENTAL” is a series of photographs I took to give a visual representation on different mental illnesses. Early on I knew I wanted to do something relating to mental health, I just had to think of a creative interesting project to do so. After concluding wanting to show others what mental illnesses may look like, I thought it would be important to portray them as accurate as I could. I talked to others that are suffering from some of these issues to help myself understand a little better and to give me ideas on how I can display these emotions. Although every mental illness is different from one another, one feeling they all usually share is a feeling of vulnerability. Because of that, I decided to have all my subjects shirtless to show nakedness. This decision was made because I think most of us feel our most vulnerable while we’re naked. There is nothing that’s hiding us, and we almost feel defenseless. Much like how mental illness may feel to some individuals.
